High Chief Dr. Mrs W.A Awosika (OON) was born on February 13, 1940 to the illustrious Oshuporu Chieftaincy family of Owo, Ondo State.

She started her primary education at the Government Primary School, Owo, and proceeded to the renowned St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School, Molete Ibadan from 1954- 1958.

Following her brilliant performance in her Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), youthful and vibrant Winifred moved on to the Nigerian College of Arts, Enugu for the Advanced/intermediate studies and thereafter attended  the University College, Ibadan, (now University of Ibadan) in 1962.She graduated in 1966  with Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Not one to rest on her oars, she proceeded to the University of Lagos for a post-graduate diploma in Education, a field that has been of great attraction for her, right from childhood. It is worthy of note, that her thesis at the post graduate level at the University of Lagos remains a reference book on education up till today.

Armed with the requisite qualification of a teacher, she taught in several reputable schools including Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos.

After over a decade and a half of dedicated and meritorious stint in public service as a straight-laced and thorough-bred teacher she established Chrisland Educational Organisation in 1977.

Today, that little oak of 1977 has grown into a giant tree; Chrisland has become a global brand, a force to be reckoned with in the education sector, with 5 prestigious Nursery/Primary Schools and four world class Secondary Schools and a Pre degree College.

In February 2015,Chrisland University received the official licence, and the first set of students have resumed, thus bringing to fulfilment her vision to be at the forefront in the private education sector, and to nurture the children to become all they can be through quality all –round education ,from kindergarten to tertiary level.

In appreciation of her laudable contributions to the development of education in Nigeria, High Chief (Mrs.) Winifred Awosika has been bestowed with several awards. They include a Doctorate degree in Management Technology (Honoris Causa) from the Federal University of Technology Akure and laurels from the Science and Mathematics Teachers Association of Nigeria.

She is also a Fellow of the Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo.

High Chief (Mrs.) Awosika is Chairman/Managing Director in several blue chips companies including Holy Trinity Hospitals and State Clinic, Chemopharma Laboratories Ltd., a pharmaceutical Manufacturing company, C.C.I.E (City Commercial and Industrial Enterprises) Ltd. a construction/ property management and development Company in Lagos.

She is a Fellow and member Governing Council, Institute of Directors in Nigeria (I.O.D) and Chancellor/Chairman Board of Trustees, Chrisland University.

A woman of many parts, High Chief (Mrs) Awosika is the Charter President of Inner Wheel Club of Opebi, member, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS). She was the Asst. National Secretary and Chairman Standing Committee on Education. She was at a time the Charter Treasurer, Zonta International Conferences on World Environment and Peace Matters.

She is a Matron and Trustee of many clubs and organizations including Busy Bees Society of Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral, Ikeja.

In recognition of her many great achievements and contributions to humanity, High Chief (Mrs.) Awosika has been honoured with many Awards and Chieftaincy titles. She is the Oshobiken of Owo and the Erelu of Okaland among several others.

In year 2004, High Chief Dr. (Mrs.) W. A Awosika was conferred with the Nigeria National Merit Award: Officer of the Order of the Niger – OON, for her immense contribution to the development of education and service to her country.
